A simple life is good with me. I don’t need a whole lot. For me, a T-shirt, a pair of shorts, barefoot on a beach and I’m happy.

Envision a special place with dazzling, white sandy beaches, shimmering, warm turquoise to deep blue ocean waters surrounded by swaying palm trees. A gentle, warm sea breeze blows while egrets wander and thrasher, pelicans and hummingbirds fly. An occasional lizard basks in the sun and if you are fortunate a spotted mongoose or donkey dashes across your path. St John Island is the place to visit! There is plenty to keep you occupied for days. I hiked the Reef Hike Trail through the lush jungle past ancient ruins, Taino petroglyphs and an abandoned sugar mill with the promise of a boat pick-up. Alas, the Coast Guard nixed the cruise so back up the mountain we hiked. The Island Taxi will take you on a tour of the beaches (amazing) and the ruins of the Annaberg Sugar Mill where locals share fresh coconut meat, sliced sugar cane and bread. If inclined, snorkel among the coral reefs, mangrove trees and swim among bright, colorful fishes, turtles, stingrays – perhaps a nonthreatening nurse shark. Hire a boat for fishing, try windsurfing or learn to scuba dive. Virgin Islands is definitely a destination for sun lovers!
