KINGS CANYON

Happy the man to whom every tree is a friend.

— John Muir

  • Date Created: March 4, 1940.

  • Location: Southern Sierra Nevada mountain range in eastern California.

  • Size: About 461,901 acres (187,329 hectares).

My second trip to Kings Canyon was as impressive as the first. The King’s Canyon Scenic Byway is a 30 mile drive displaying cliffs, deep valleys, towering trees and a raging river. At Yucca Point the canyon is thousands of feet deeper than the Grand Canyon. The star attraction here are the Sequoias. They live more than 2,500 years and are massive.
