Hoodoos! The crimson and pink stone spires are incredible and the largest collection of hoodoos in the world. Walking among these giant formations I found my imagination running wild. As with most of the national parks, this land was occupied by native Americans. Ancient lore is that “legend people” ruthlessly pillaged the land and waters. Natural resources were decimated. Because of the avarice and arrogance of these people, Coyote enticed them to a feast and then cast a curse turning them all to stone. Eerily the pillars do take on images of statues. On a brighter note, in 2019 Bryce officially gained International Dark Sky status. The clean, clear air refreshes the body as well as soul. Still – lessons to be learned from our fellow humans; greed does have consequences.
