  • Location: The park is located on the islands of Tutuila, Ta’u, and Ofu in American Samoa, a U.S. territory in the South Pacific.

  • Size: Approximately 13,500 acres (5,463 hectares).

American Samoa consists of seven islands and two coral atolls. This park is unique in many ways. The national park has been protected since 1988 with a 50 year lease settled in 1988 between native village councils and the USA National Parks Services. The word Samoa means “sacred earth” with the majority of the land set aside as communal property for native people. Customs, beliefs and traditions are guided by chiefs (matia) who manage extended families and resources for the common good. Peace, tranquility, enchantment, bliss – beauty; this amazing treasure is the only national park south of the equator. Lush, dense flora and fauna cover tropical rainforest lands and warm indigo to turquoise clean, clear seas (82 – 86 degree F) provide world-class fishing, diving and snorkeling. Bananas and breadfruit grow in abundance. Fruit bats with 3 feet wide wingspans, sea turtles, and exotic fishes are common. This national park exemplifies an amazing display of natural resources and is well worth a lengthy visit!
